The first day I met Audi, I told her I went to school in Kalamazoo. Oh, Kalamazoo, she says. I stayed in a mission there one time.

Audi is homeless. She lives off the tips she collects at the end of the night and other peoples’ favors. Audi’s real name is Audrae, which reads like it should be a suffix on the end of Duchess. People have always called me Audi, she says. It’s a nice car.

Not many things in Audi’s life are nice. She complains about absolutely everything. It’s always too hot or too cold. She’s never making enough money or she made money but got ripped off. Something always hurts.

It’s never enough.
